Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is now accepting applications for our Reading-based Graduate Programme starting in September 2018. Our structured programme for Project Control Engineer graduates comprises an initial period of two years of training. This is followed by a further two years to continue your learning, obtain a QCF in Project Controls and provide you with the necessary skills and experience to apply for membership of the relevant professional institution. Project Control consists of three key disciplines: cost - budgeting, forecasting, planning - scheduling, monitoring and controlling, and document control. Project Control liaises with all engineering, technical and management disciplines across all projects executed by Wood.

Key Elements of the Graduate Programme:

  • Accredited training with quarterly development reviews for the first two years with specific training courses followed by two additional years of career development
  • Each graduate is assigned a mentor (experienced engineer), a departmental training manager and an HR graduate development advisor to ensure they are supported in their personal and professional development to gain chartered status
  • Exposure to a variety of projects to ensure well rounded development
  • Early responsibility and hands-on involvement on projects alongside experienced engineers
  • Rotations in Cost, Planning, Document Control, Estimating with opportunities to work in other disciplines within the company
  • Exposure to a variety of projects to ensure well rounded development
  • From the beginning there is hands-on involvement working on projects with the opportunity to develop skills by working alongside experienced engineers
  • Opportunities for placements in the UK and overseas during a graduate's first few years with the company

Skills / Qualifications

  • You will need a minimum 2:1 degree in a technical subject that demonstrates a range of thought and application. Typically this might include Engineering, Science, Maths, Business Studies or Economics
  • Candidates who apply for this position should be able to show experience of organisational skills, interpersonal skills, an eagerness for learning and self-motivation
  • Enthusiasm about developing a career in the engineering and oil and gas industry
  • Demonstrated initiative, tenacity and excellent communication skills with an ability to learn quickly and be adaptable and flexible to match business requirements
